1. Setting Up the Organisation
The following guide requires a Microsoft Account with administrator privileges on Entra.
First sign in with your account, this might request your permission to log in and should redirect you to this page. Sign in with Microsoft to proceed.
After you signed in, you will be redirected to this page again.
We also have a Staging instance if you want to experiment first
Now you will need to assign roles to users/groups.
1. In Entra administration panel:

2. Go to “Enterprise apps”

3. Go to “All Applications” and click on “Brian Study”, which should be listed here now because you logged through the button above.

4. Go to “Users and groups”

5. Click on “Add user/group”

6. Assign your users and groups to their respective role.

Make sure all of your teachers are assigned to the teacher role. Otherwise, they will not be able to use Brian.
Users with no assigned role will be automatically assigned the “Student” role. If this is not the case, ensure you have set in “Properties” → “Assigned required?” to “No”.

8. Newly login into Brian with Microsoft
Your own user MUST be assigned the Brian Admin role in Entra so you can proceed with the setup.
9. You should now land on the following form, allowing you to set up the name and default language for your organization:

9. After you press save, your user will be logged in. If you logout, you will be able to login again by selecting your organization in the dropdown “Sign in with your organization (SSO)”:

Congratulations – your teachers and students can now login via Entra. If you want to also enable group synchronization, continue with the below.
2. Allow Synchronization of Entra Groups (coming soon)
You can synchronise all groups with Brian's directory. This allows teachers to select a group or class with a single click, saving significant time for everyone as they no longer have to invite students individually.
Groups are synchronised automatically between Brian and Entra every hour.
- Once you have completed Step 1, please log in to Brian (app.brian.study) using the admin account.
- Click on the Admin Panel and navigate to Organisation Settings.
- Open your personal Microsoft Entra consent link and allow Brian to synchronise all groups from your Entra.
- You are now finished and should see all your Groups in the “Directory”

In case you are using security groups in MS Entra / Active Directory you have to transfer these to regular groups case you are using security groups in MS Entra / Active Directory you have to transfer these to regular groups
If you don't manage groups in Entra, you have the option of manually creating groups on Brian or importing existing directories. To import, send us a CSV file of the existing directory to: info@brian.study. The CSV file should contain the following columns: First name | Last name | Group name | Email address (same as Entra email)
