Google Workspace as a login method lets everyone in your organization sign in to Brian with the Google account they already use every day — no separate password required. Unlike other login methods, there's usually nothing to configure on Google's end. You start the setup, and we finish it together with you.
How to set up Google Workspace login
1. Sign in to Brian with your Google Workspace account
Go to app.brian.study and select "Sign in with Google." Make sure to use your organization's Google Workspace account – not a personal address like @gmail.com.
2. Send us your organization's details
Email info@brian.study with the following information:
- Owner and admins: Who should be listed as the owner of the Brian organization and receive admin rights? Please share the corresponding email addresses.
- Email domains: Which email domains does your organization use? For example, @school.edu for teachers and staff, and @student.school.edu for students. Let us know which domain belongs to which group.
3. Optional: Students in a separate Google Workspace
Some organizations run a second Google Workspace with its own domain for students. If teachers and students should belong to the same organization in Brian:
- Repeat step 1 using an account from the second workspace (for example, a student's email address).
- Mention the second workspace and its domain in your email to info@brian.study.
4. We take care of the rest
We'll set up your organization based on the information you've shared and confirm by email once Google login is active for your domains.
How are roles assigned?
Role assignment depends on whether your domains have already been set up on our end.
- While your domains haven't been set up yet: new users choose their own role (teacher or student) the first time they sign in with Google. Anyone who was invited — for example, students invited by a teacher — gets their role automatically from the invitation and won't see this choice.
- Once your domains are set up: roles are assigned based on the email domain. Anyone signing in with a registered domain automatically gets the role defined for that domain. Where a domain defaults to the student role, teachers and admins can still grant the teacher role by invitation.
Make sure the domain information you send us is complete and accurate — it determines which role your users are assigned automatically.
Good to know: third-party apps in the Google Admin console
Depending on how your Google Workspace is configured, your Google admin may need to approve Brian as a third-party app. This is common in education workspaces: by default, Google blocks sign-in for unconfigured third-party apps for users under 18.
If Google login for Brian is being blocked, your Google admin can mark Brian as trusted at admin.google.com under Security → Access and data control → API controls → App access control.
These settings vary from workspace to workspace and are managed entirely on your side — we can't view or change them. If you run into any issues, we're happy to help.
