Templates: Distributing Courses via the Library

for teachers 👩🏼‍🏫

What is the Library?

The Library is where you'll find course templates created and shared by teachers or admins. They serve as inspiration and a practical starting point for new courses – either within your own organization or, if desired, across organizations as well.

For example: a teacher develops a well-rounded course on the French Revolution for secondary school and makes it available in the Library. Colleagues can then take over the entire course, or just individual course units, and adapt it to their own class as needed.

This makes it easy to share, reuse, and continuously improve proven course content, so no teacher has to start from scratch. You'll find the Library on the left-hand side menu.

Who can create templates?

This depends on your organization's settings. There are two possibilities:

  1. All teachers can create templates and make them available in the Library.
  1. Only admins can create templates.

Every teacher can view and use any template in the Library, regardless of who created it. If you'd like to create a template yourself but aren't able to, it's best to reach out to your admin.

How do I create a new template?

In the Library, click "+ New Template" in the top-right corner. The template is then set up and filled with content just like a regular course.

How do I turn an existing course into a template?

In the course settings, you can create a template from the entire course with a single click: just click "+ Create Template from This Course".

If you'd rather transfer only individual parts of an existing course into a template, proceed as follows:

  1. Create a new, empty template in the Library.
  1. Go to your existing course and copy the desired course units into the new template. Learn more here.

Who can edit a template?

By default, only the person who created a template, along with admins, can edit it. All other teachers can view and use the template, but not modify it.

If several people need to work on a template together, additional template administrators can be added in the template's settings. They get the same editing rights as the original creator.

Can I share a template with other schools or organizations?

Yes. To do so, simply add a teacher from another organization as a template administrator by email, in the template's settings.

This makes the template visible and editable only for that added person – not automatically for the entire other organization.

How do I use a template from the Library?

Open the desired template and click "Use Template."

This duplicates the template, which then appears as a standalone course in your course overview. Changes to this copy don't affect the original template.
