What exactly are chatbots?
Chatbots...
- offer open chats (so not exercises with a defined goal and completion)
- are part of the exercise landscape and thus part of the learners’ learning path
- have a function freely defined by the teacher
- can be adapted in their behaviour
- can be contextualized, i.e., provided with files
Use cases
Chatbots are best used where the goal is to provide information to students or to invite them to independently explore a specific topic.
For example, creating a chatbot is suitable for the following situations:
- to answer organizational questions about the course
- to help students develop a structure for a writing task
- to review relevant formulas in preparation for an assignment
- to develop ideas for a presentation topic
How do I add a chatbot?
“+ Add Chatbot” creates an AI configured by the teacher. This AI has a specific purpose and is anchored within a learning unit. Students will find the AI as part of their learning path.
How do I configure a chatbot?
Chatbots have a name, instructions for learners (which tell learners how to interact with the chatbot), and instructions for the chatbot (which explain to the chatbot how it should behave).
Once these three fields are filled out and saved, you can add documents as a knowledge base. The chatbot will search these for relevant material with every response.
How does the AI Tutor differ from AI Dialogues and Chatbots?
A chatbot is an open chat, an AI dialogue is an exercise with completion and feedback. Unlike the AI Tutor, the chatbot is integrated into a learning unit instead of being assigned to the entire course. A chatbot thus takes on specific tasks within a learning path that are not designed as exercises.
