Setting the Response Strictness in AI Dialogues

for teachers 👩🏼‍🏫

Core Idea

In AI dialogues, the „Response Strictness" slider lets you control how much tolerance the AI tutor shows towards inaccurate or incomplete answers. The slider is set to „Normal" by default and can be adjusted to „Loose" or „Strict".

What do the individual levels mean?

Loose: The AI prioritises the flow of the conversation and conceptual understanding. Answers that are fundamentally correct are accepted – even if they contain small errors, informal language, or incorrect vocabulary. The AI briefly and politely informs learners of any shortcomings in their answer before moving on. This setting is encouraging for weaker learners, as it allows them to complete the task quickly despite minor inaccuracies.

Strict: The AI acts as a strict tutor and requires precise and complete answers. If an answer is incomplete, learners are asked to try again until the answer is complete. This mode can be frustrating for some learners and is therefore recommended primarily for stronger learners.

Difference from the Course Level slider

Response Strictness is a specific setting for AI dialogues and should not be confused with the Course Level slider, which controls the linguistic and content complexity of the course or exercise.
