Where and how do I use Brian in my teaching?

for teachers 👩🏼‍🏫

Brian is particularly well-suited for self-directed learning, as it allows learners to build and demonstrate their skills at their own pace with individualized support.

Thanks to the automatically generated assessment of learning progress, teachers always stay on top of things.

Brian is often used in combination with traditional in-person instruction to create new opportunities, as content can be taught and practiced outside the classroom. There are various possibilities:

Lesson Preparation

Brian’s learning quizzes help learners actually understand learning materials and provide teachers with feedback on whether and how well the content of a text or video has been understood.

Instead of simply providing learners with learning materials, it is therefore worthwhile to also provide them with a quiz related to the text or video, complete with integrated explanations. This can be created in just a few minutes using the “Use existing materials” option. The option “Create new materials” is helpful if you don’t have a text or video on hand.

Post-Lesson Follow-Up

It is often unclear which parts of the lesson were actually understood by which students. A quiz on the topics covered, administered immediately after the lesson, can help address this: It reveals the students’ level of understanding and, at the same time, provides the teacher with a solid basis for accurately assessing their progress.

AI dialogues are suitable for practicing new content (math problems, grammar exercises), for formulating one’s own thoughts (analyses, arguments, interpretations), and replace many traditional homework assignments and worksheets. Since they are adaptive, they help learners with learning difficulties while also challenging motivated, high-achieving learners.

Exam preparation

The learning environment on Brian is adaptive and can be further customized by learners on their own. This allows them to test themselves throughout the entire course and mark difficult or interesting questions as favorites. AI dialogues can be repeated as often as desired, and learners have access to all their attempts. They can also discuss questions and concepts with each other in the discussion room and ask the AI tutor for help in understanding.

This helps students prepare for a wide range of exam formats, including:

  • Oral exams (the AI dialogue can simulate these effectively)
  • vocabulary tests
  • written exams (the learning quizzes in the topics reinforce empirical and conceptual knowledge, which underpins success on written exams and homework assignments, and the AI dialogs can specifically prepare students for analytical, argumentative, and interpretive tasks, though we recommend keeping the individual dialogs short and simple)
  • multiple-choice exams and other forms of knowledge assessment

In the Classroom or Seminar Room

A quiz or AI dialogue on Brian is an excellent classroom activity. For example, a relevant quiz can quickly assess and reinforce understanding of newly introduced concepts, or an AI dialogue can be used to prepare for a class discussion, which has the advantage of allowing all students to formulate their thoughts in advance and the teacher to track these during the debriefing.

Tip: Brian can also be used by mirroring a screen onto a large display in the classroom and answering questions together.
