In Analytics, you can see how much time your students have spent on their activities. Here you can learn how Brian measures this time and how to interpret it.

What does Brian measure?
Brian measures the time during which an activity is open and visible, such as a quiz question, an AI Dialogue, a chatbot, or an info page. Whether students are typing or clicking is not tracked.
Does idle time count?
Yes, as long as the activity stays open in the foreground. There is no inactivity timeout, so short breaks while an activity is open are included.
When does time tracking stop?
Time tracking stops automatically as soon as students:
- leave or close the activity,
- move the app to the background or lock their device,
- switch tabs, minimize the window, or click on another window in their browser.
When students return to the activity, time tracking resumes from that point. The time in between is not counted.
Is there an upper limit?
Yes. A single, uninterrupted session counts for a maximum of 4 hours. This way, activities left open overnight, for example, don't distort the analytics.
How meaningful is time spent?
Time spent shows how long an activity was actively open. It is a good indicator of how long students worked on it, but not an exact measure of how much time they actually spent thinking or writing.
